EU Plans Russian Oil Embargo Amidst SIXTH Round of Sanctions

The European Commission has announced its latest package of sanctions against Moscow, including a complete embargo on Russian oil phased over the next six months despite admitting some members are “strongly dependent” on it.

Earlier reports had suggested Hungary and Slovakia, who depend on Russia for 58% and 96% of their oil respectively, would be given a longer transition period, but Budapest immediately expressed concern over an apparent lack of “any plan or guarantee” for Hungary’s energy security.

Czech Trade Minister Jozef Sikela also slammed the proposals for not having any clear burden-sharing plans. EC President Ursula von der Leyen insisted the bloc’s members “simply have to do it”.

The message also says that each tank could contain up to 5,000 cubic meters of oil.  Ukrainian media reports the oil depot was providing Russian forces with fuel.

 Belarus holds surprise military drills

Belarus has insisted the surprise exercises pose no threat to the “European community” and its neighbors.

The drills’ objective is to assess the troops’ readiness to respond to “crisis situations” in a swift manner. The soldiers involved in the exercise will have to operate in unfamiliar areas in a “rapidly changing environment,” a statement from the defence ministry said.

The scope of the drills will incrementally increase, allowing Minsk to check its military capabilities both against “threats on the ground as well as in the air,” the ministry noted.

UK Ramps Up Crackdown on RT & Sputnik Web, Socials and Apps

The UK’s Tech and Digital Economy Minister Chris Philp has defended moves to block RT and Sputnik content from social media, internet providers and app stores to stop the “spread of lies”.

His announcement follows British regulator Ofcom and the EU revoking RT’s broadcast licenses in March, which RT Deputy Editor-in-Chief Anna Belkina slammed as it “robbed the UK public of access to information”.

The All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company was also blacklisted along with InfoRos and SouthFront websites.
